How Does the Main Series End?
Without spoiling specifics: Kazuma’s story gets a proper conclusion. The Demon King situation resolves. The party’s dynamic gets addressed head-on. And Natsume Akatsuki writes an ending that is very much in character for the series. If you’ve been reading Konosuba as a comedy that occasionally has real stakes, the ending respects both halves of that.
I finished Volume 17 expecting to feel like the series ran out of steam (17 volumes of comedy is a lot). It didn’t. Akatsuki knew where he was going and the final volume doesn’t drag. It’s tight, it’s funny, and the emotional beats land because the setup was there the whole time. The anime hasn’t gotten anywhere near this part of the story yet.

What About the Spinoffs?
Two completed spinoff series exist, and both are worth reading if you liked the main series:
Konosuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! (5 volumes, complete) follows Megumin before she met Kazuma. Her obsessive path to learning Explosion magic, her rivalry/friendship with Yunyun, and her life in the Crimson Magic Clan village. I went in expecting filler and got genuine character depth. Yunyun is used way better here than in the main series. If you liked Megumin at all, this isn’t optional. It has its own anime adaptation too.
Konosuba: Dust Spinoff (7 volumes, complete) follows Dust, the background party guy the anime treats as a running joke. Turns out he has a real backstory that the main series kept deliberately offscreen. It’s more plot-driven than the main series. Akatsuki structures a reveal across these volumes that genuinely surprised me. Not essential, but rewarding if you want to know why Dust kept showing up.
Is There a Sequel?
Yes. Konosuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! Fantastic Days started as a mobile game, and a new light novel project was announced in 2024. Akatsuki is involved. Details are still sparse as of early 2026, but the Konosuba universe is not done expanding.

Each volume is short (around 200 pages), the prose is light, and Akatsuki’s comedy pacing means you’re never stuck on a slow chapter for long. I read the back half of the series in about a week.
The other advantage of reading it complete: the long-term payoffs land better. Akatsuki built character arcs underneath the comedy that don’t become visible until volumes 12-15. Anime-only viewers don’t know those arcs exist yet. Reading the full series in order, knowing it’s finished, makes those payoffs hit harder because you’re not waiting between volumes wondering if they’ll pay off.
