Main Series: Where Are We?
Volume 21 released in Japan in October 2025. The series is in the middle of the Great Far East War arc, which is the largest-scale conflict DanMachi has tackled. Bell and the Hestia Familia have moved beyond Orario’s internal politics into something bigger.
Ōmori has been publishing at a pace of roughly 1-2 volumes per year for the main series. That slowed slightly during Seasons 4 and 5 production (he’s involved with the anime), but the output has been consistent overall. No hiatuses, no extended breaks.
How Close Is It to Ending?
Nobody knows, including probably Ōmori. He hasn’t announced a final arc or given a volume count target. The Great Far East War is ongoing, and the story is still introducing new factions and expanding the world. If I had to guess based on the pacing so far, the series could run to 25-30+ volumes. But that’s speculation.
What I can say: this isn’t a series that’s running on fumes. The Freya arc (Volumes 12-14) was the best stretch of DanMachi, and it came 10+ years into the run. Ōmori is still writing at a high level. The quality hasn’t dropped off the way some long-running LN series do.
English Translation Gap

Yes. The main series has natural stopping points at the end of each arc. You’re not going to hit a cliffhanger at Volume 21 and have nothing resolved. Each arc (Apollo, Ishtar, Xenos, Freya, Great Far East War) has its own beginning and conclusion within the larger story.
With 21 volumes out and the quality still strong, there’s a lot of reading before you catch up to the ongoing releases.
