Three seasons of anime. Two of them mediocre. And the consensus basically settled: Shield Hero peaked early, fell off hard, move on. That verdict is mostly about the adaptation. I came into the light novels already skeptical. Season 2 had…
Seven volumes. Still re-reading Volume 3. Still thinking about that Iris confrontation at 2am. The problem with Eminence in Shadow is how specific it is. The power fantasy works because Cid is genuinely delusional and genuinely right at the same…
Six volumes in. Volume 7 nowhere on the English release calendar. The author is somewhere deep in developing a mobile game. And I keep checking Yen Press announcement pages like something is going to change between Monday and Tuesday. The…

I need to be upfront about something. Ascendance of a Bookworm is my favorite light novel series. It’s in my top three alongside Mushoku Tensei and Re:Zero, and if someone forced me to pick just one, this is the one…
The Apothecary Diaries is the series that made me realize light novels could do mystery well. Not “isekai protagonist solves everything with cheat powers” mystery. Actual deductive reasoning, physical evidence, court politics. Maomao notices a discoloration on a wall, connects…
